The NSW Government is planning to tax 4 million NSW residents with private health insurance to repair its budget deficit. This health tax will drive up the cost of an average silver health insurance policy by $114 a year, making NSW the most expensive state in Australia to hold health insurance.
People with health insurance are not rich. 65% of people with health cover earn less than $90,000 a year. This tax will cause thousands of people to drop their health cover, forcing them to rely on public hospitals instead.
NSW already has the longest waiting times for surgery in Australia. This will blow out waiting times for emergency care and surgery even more.

As one of 51,840 people in Badgerys Creek with private health insurance, I am calling on you to stop the NSW Labor Government from increasing the cost of my health insurance.
I am deeply concerned about the Minns Government’s secret plan to tax 4 million people in NSW with health cover in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. This will add $114 to premiums for an average silver policy from next year.
People with health insurance are not rich and we are contributing to the cost of our own healthcare. Sixty-five per cent of people with health cover earn under $90,000 a year. We cannot afford to take another financial hit.
I am concerned this tax will force thousands of people to drop their health insurance and rely on our busy public hospital system instead. Our public hospitals have the longest waiting times for elective surgery in Australia and our emergency departments are at breaking point. This will blow out waiting times for public healthcare even more.
I urge you to stand up for your constituents and stop the NSW Government from putting more financial pressure on us during a cost-of-living crisis.
