STOP THE HEALTH TAX
Health insurance will become more expensive in NSW than any other state under the Minns Government’s health tax, which will hit families with a new $156 bill from next year.
During a cost-of-living crisis, NSW residents should not be expected to pay more for their health insurance.
This tax will cause at least 75,000 people to drop their health cover in NSW next year, forcing more people to rely on overwhelmed public hospitals across NSW. This will increase pressure on emergency departments and blow out waiting lists for surgery by about 7%. NSW already has the longest waiting lists for surgery in Australia.

Dear Premier Minns,
As one of the 4 million people in NSW with health insurance, I oppose your new health tax.
This tax hike will add $156 per year to health insurance premiums for NSW families, causing more than 75,000 people to drop their insurance and rely on our busy public hospitals instead.
Our public hospitals have the longest waiting times for elective surgery in Australia and our emergency departments are at breaking point. This will blow out waiting times for public healthcare even more.
Most people with health insurance are not wealthy. Sixty-five per cent of people with health cover have a taxable income of $90,000 or less. We cannot take another financial hit. We are paying taxes for the public system and contributing to our own healthcare via insurance premiums, and now you want us to pay a third tax for nothing in return. This cannot be justified.
I urge you to abandon this tax because it is going to hurt me financially and reduce access to public hospitals for all NSW residents.
